The Museum Committee Members give guided tours during our scheduled meeting or work times.  Please feel free to ask anyone of our members for a tour. Special Tours can be arranged by contacting a Museum Member or leaving us a message on our voice mail (216-861-6060 ext. 146).  We check the mail box weekly so make your reservations early.The Museum Committee is dedicated to keeping the museum fresh by changing at least one display monthly.  Stop by and visit to see what is new.

Scouting Memorabilia and Photos. The Nathan Dauby Scout Museum is accepting donations or loans of Scouting Uniforms, equipment, articles, publications, and other related items to be displayed or preserved for future generations of Scouts.

Items maybe dropped off at the Council Service Center or arrangements may be made by leaving a message at 216-861-6060 ext. 146.

Please leave your name, address and phone number with the items being donated or loaned so we can acknowledge your donation.

We are particularly interested in items from the old Scout Reservations, old photographs or movies of Scouting activities and items prior to 1960.

2009-2010 Activity Year
September 12, 2009 Fall Plant Identification
1. Have the handouts that participants can take with them to start discovering the wonderful nature of this time of year.
2. Have leaf cards available for participants to identify with the provided identification guides. Have them identify what color the leaf will be if it were to change.
3. Have a nature trail around the Service Center for participants to identify plants and trees. If we use the plants on the other side of Woodland we will have many additional wildflowers to identify. Have about 20 plants.
4. Have slides of the fall plants on the computer for people to see. Create a new PowerPoint that will be made available in a CD later.

October 3, 2009 Knot Games
1. Have various knot games for participants to play, from Troop Program Resources (Woods Wisdom) and other sources.
2. Show how knot games can be used to teach knots quickly and easily to others.
3. Develop materials that can be put on the CD/DVD for distribution.

November 7, 2009 Council History and Trivia
1. Show a film, one or both, of Beaumont in the 1960s (super 8) and a Scout Circus from the 1950s (VHS).
2. Fun Facts, a series of 10 to 20 questions regarding Scouting in Cleveland, one answer will be obvious and the correct one, the other three options fun.
3. Museum Scavenger Hunt, a series of 10 questions for which the answers can be found in the museums displays or a clue to lead you to one display where you get the next clue.

December 5, 2009 Christmas Crafts
1. Have simple Christmas Crafts that can be made quickly and easily.
2. Have materials that can be placed on the CD/DVD for distribution.

January 9, 2010 100 Years of Boy Scouts of America
1. Develop 10 display boards of each decade of the last 100 years. Use extra Boys Life magazines, scanned or photographed handbook covers and other literature and photos of various uniforms of each era. Include the programs that were present during this time and if possible ranks.
2. These display boards might be displayed throughout the year around the museum and at various activities.
3. Materials gathered could be placed on a special CD/DVD.


February 6, 2010 Pinewood Derby Car Seminar
1. Bring the crew together again to help participants develop and rough out their Pinewood Derby Cars, getting the cars to between 4.75 ounces and 5 ounces in weight.
2. Have the Museum track available for participants to experiment with the washer cars to see where they wish to have the weight placed on the car.
3. Have various designs that can be sketched on participants cars using templates developed from designs in books and from personal designs.
4. Have a tip sheet for participants to take home to finish the cars to council pinewood derby standards.
5. Have materials available for the CD/DVD.

March 6, 2010 A Badge from the Past - Retired Merit Badges
1. Have on display the old merit badges that have been retired with the requirements listed. If there are extra books that can be examined have them on display as well.
2. Possibly have the excess books available for purchase from the museum staff. Other items could also be sold.
3. Have materials available for the CD/DVD.

April 10, 2010 Pop Bottle Rocketry
1. Collect pop bottles that participants can make into pop bottle rockets to fire in the Service Center parking lot. We will focus on bicycle pump launched rockets to minimize the heights and distance traveled.
2. Have various designs presented on display boards for participants to examine when developing their rockets.
3. Have materials on pop bottle rocketry available of the CD/DVD.

May 1, 2010 Summer Time Fun, Games and Activities
1. Have various games and activities for some summertime fun that are a little different from the normal summertime activities. Focus on activities for each program age group or skill level.
2. Show the different references available for examination.
3. Have materials for the CD/DVD.


2010-2011 Activity Year
September 11, 2010 A Patriot's Day Tribute
1. Have display boards and materials showing the events of 9/11/01.
2. Have a book where participants can record their memories to share with others. Maybe put a request in our Trailmarker article for the previous 2 issues to get many of these memories for display.

October 2, 2010 Indian Lore
1. Have display materials on the various tribes that were around the Cleveland area. Include customs, skills and other knowledge items from these tribes.
2. Have a display on the current Native American community in the Council Area. Include information on activities that Scouting units may attend and participate in.
3. Ask former members of the OA Dance Team come and display their knowledge of the customs and dances of the Native American peoples. They could possibly have presentations in the Training Room.
4. Show the Indian Lore connections to the Scouting Programs from the beginning to the present. Include information of OA.

November 6, 2010 Thanksgiving Fun and Food
1. Have displays of Thanksgiving foods through the ages. Include some recipes that could be tried at home.
2. Have museum members include some of their favorite Thanksgiving food and activities.
3. Have fun activities and crafts that will make Thanksgiving more fun.
4. Develop materials that can be included on a CD/DVD.

December 4, 2010 Christmas Crafts/ Religious Awards
1. Have various seasonal crafts for participants to do.
2. Get the various religious committees develop displays and materials for distribution for the museum area.

January 8, 2011 International Scouting / Scouting around the World
1. Ask the International Scouting Committee to put a display on about opportunities for Scouting Units.
2. Display the various International Scouting Uniforms with information about that country's Scouting programs.
3. Develop materials that can be placed on a CD/DVD.

1. Have displays about spring time plants and animals that are easily seen in our area.
2. Have a nature trail that participants can try. See if we can have potted wildflowers that can be examined.
3. Have materials that can be available for the CD/DVD.

May 7, 2011 Rain Gutter Regatta
1. Set up a rain gutter regatta that participants can use.
2. Have materials that participants can build their racing craft.
3. Have alternative designs for different classes of racers, for example - airboats, paddlewheel boats, sail boats and soap boats.
4. Have materials available on a CD/DVD that can be used for participants to run their own regatta.
