Dear Parent,

The Greater Cleveland Council is pleased to welcome you and your family to Scouting. You join more than 22,000 families in Cuyahoga and northern Summit County who will participate in Scouting programs. For over 90 years, Scouting has been Scouting Painting Imagecommitted to providing a quality Scouting program that supports the family by creating opportunities to enhance positive values of good character, personal fitness and citizenship in our children.

Scouting provides a wide-range of programs, which your child can participate in beginning in the first grade continuing through their high school years. Tiger Cubs provides first graders the chance to learn and share with an adult partner. Cub Scouting is a fun home centered family program designed for both achievement and growth. Boy Scouting utilizes the outdoors as the classroom for building self-confidence and leadership while providing a fun experience and adventuresome program. Our Venturing program provides a high-energy adventure program for high school students. Exploring is a vocational and educational program for high school young adults.

Scouting provides several new programs for your children. Learning for Life helps support the classroom teacher to achieve their educational objectives. In-School Scouting makes Scouting available for youth that might not otherwise enjoy a Scouting experience. Each camp is lead by nationally trained directors and staffed by experienced Cub Scout leaders. These volunteers are planning activities, crafts, and events that will bring your son the best Cub Scouting has to offer.

TINNERMAN WILDERNESS CANOE BASE - A Once in a Lifetime Adventure

Imagine being in a place where quiet is disturbed by the water dripping off your canoe paddle, where you can see bear, moose, beaver and hear the haunting sound of the loon. Imagine Photo of Tinnerman Adventurecrystal clear waters and large granite boulders all formed from the ice age. Imagine paddling through history of the Hurons, the French trappers, and the Scottish traders who lived on the French River 400 to 1000 years ago. This is what a Tinnerman Canoe expedition is all about. Each Scout and leaders' experience will be one they cherish for a lifetime. A Scout’s trip begins with a 20-minute boat ride from Hartley Bay to the base camp. Here the crew will be given additional training and directions. Your son's crew will have already received their provisions and their gear from the quartermaster to load into the canoes. Then off you go.

HOW CAN YOU HELP SCOUTING?

The Friends of Scouting Campaign is amajor portion of the Scouting budget. Scouting families have always been a major portion of this fundraising drive. Every year Scouting families contribute generously to support Scouting programs. During the next couple of months, you may be asked to consider making a gift to Scouting. Here is how you can help:

  • As a unit leader you will be asked to provide about ten minutes at a pack meeting or a troop court of honor in the next couple of months to allow a Scouting representative to make a short presentation. If you have not already been contacted, you will be shortly. Your help in making this time available is vital to this effort.

  • As parents, review the presentation at your unit meeting and consider your support. It takes about one hundred and sixty dollars to keep a boy in Scouting for one year. Your contribution in any amount will insure that more young people will benefit from Scouting programs this year.

Your support through the Friends of Scouting Campaign will help the Greater Cleveland Council continue its mission to provide the best possible program for your son and other youth.

SCOUTING IS A GREAT EXPERIENCE!

The volunteers and the professional staff or the Greater Cleveland Council are dedicated to the Scouting program and to making your experience with Scouting enjoyable and pleasureable. Please contact the council office at 216-861-6060 if you have any questions.
