Welcome to the online home of Cuyahoga Lodge No. 17. We are affiliated with the Greater Cleveland Council, Boy Scouts of America headquartered in Cleveland, OH. In 2005, the lodge celebrated it's 50th year of service to the council. The majority of our service work takes place on the 1,260 acres of Beaumont Scout Reservation, our council camp. At camp you'll find us involved with projects like building repairs, cleaning up after storms, trail maintenance, summer camp setup and tear down, just to name a few. Around town members help out at places like the council's good turn event, "Yard Charge", the adult recognition dinner, and Eagle Scout banquet. Arrowmen also have fun! They participate in exciting adventures, and experience new things. An interesting diversion for some of our members is learning about Native American culture and traditions. This is accomplished through the Dance Team, Ceremonial Team, and by carving Totem Poles. In 2006, the Lodge received the coveted Quality Lodge award and in 2007 an OA National Service Grant to be used for camp improvements.

Lodge Rules Approved!

At our Lodge meeting on September 22nd, members met to discuss a major revision to the Lodge Rules. The Lodge Rules provide a framework for how Cuyahoga Lodge is structured and conducts its' business. Our Lodge Rules have been in place since 1977 and have been amended as necessary to remain current with the times. The changes at this meeting brought us inline with the OA Strategic Plan and represent an updated approach to the way our lodge operates. The Lodge Rules Ad hoc committee is to be commended on their fine work. Only one amendment to the proposed rules was made during the general meeting. The rules were adopted unanimously by those present. A "master copy" of the rules will always be available in the resources section of the website.

Vigil Weekend

Vigil members from Cuyahoga Lodge gathered August 23-24, 2008 at Beaumont to induct four members to Vigil Honor. The event started off with a picnic and sharing of stories at the Augustus Training Center. Excellent weather made the weekend pass smoothly. Thanks goes out to the Culinary crew for preparing excellent meals and to everyone that helped make the weekend a success. Special congratulations to Joe LaGruth Jr., Mr. John Coffey, Mrs. Barb Slator, and Mr. Cary Weatherhead on becoming Vigil Honor.

August Ordeal Recap

This year's August Ordeal, August 8-10, was both fun and successful. The Lodge inducted a total of 32 new Ordeal members and had 11 members seal their membership by completing Brotherhood. Several major work projects were completed over the weekend. Two key tasks were the structural improvement and painting of the OA building and grading the soil around the new OA pavilion. It was also an historic day on Saturday when all hands worked together to manually raise a 32 foot tall totem pole in front of the OA building. The evening festivities began with a tasty pig roast and filling meal. Unfortunately heavy rain forced us to cancel the pool party, but everyone had fun joining in on the team games and events. Others met new friends while playing card or board games. It was a great weekend that will be remembered by those who attended.

2008-2012 Strategic Plan

As Scouting's National Honor Society and as an integral part of every council, our service, activities, adventures, and training for youth and adults will be models of quality leadership development and programming that enrich the lives of our members and help extend Scouting to America's youth. The 2008-2012 Strategic Plan focuses on these key traits assisting lodges with promoting these ideals and endeavors. Presented at the 2007 National Conservation and Leadership Summit, the Strategic Plan for 2008-2012 addresses how the National Committee plans to achieve our vision for the future of the Order of the Arrow. The plan is entitled "Living the Legacy."  It defines leadership, service, and financial support as ways the Order can assist the Boy Scouts of America. The plan outlines methods for local lodges to give increased service to their councils, as well as what the National Committee will do to support the lodges and Scouting in the years ahead.  Learn more about the Strategic Plan and how your lodge can assist your local council and the Boy Scouts of America with Living the Legacy.
