Brotherhood Candidate Information

Why Brotherhood?

It is said, “that in the Ordeal, the Order of the Arrow accepts the new member. In the Brotherhood, the individual accepts the lodge and the ideals of the Order." As an Ordeal member of the lodge, service to the troop is of utmost importance. Brotherhood membership in the lodge can be obtained after completing 10 months as an ordeal member, and gaining an understanding of the lodge program. Advancement to the Brotherhood membership is a personal decision, and we recommend that you look over the information in your OA member handbook for greater detailed information.

The Requirements for Brotherhood membership:

  1. Been an Ordeal member for at least 10 months.
  2. Be Active member of your Scouting Unit.
  3. Be Active paid member of Cuyahoga Lodge.
  4. Write a letter to the secretary on why you wish to attain Brotherhood status.
  5. Pay the $30.00 Brotherhood fee.

Where/When?

Brotherhood Ceremonies are be held at Spring Fellowship, Summer Camp, August Ordeal, and Fall Fellowship at Beaumont Scout Reservation.

To gain a better understanding of the Ordeal review these questions:

  • How did I provide service to my camp?
  • What did I do well, not so well?
  • What did I learn about myself?
  • What did I learn about others?
  • What positive personal experience did I have on my Ordeal?
  • What can I do to make sure others have similar positive experiences?
  • What did I learn from the ceremonies?
  • How can I use what I learned to benefit my unit?

Serve Your Unit

Remain active with your unit, and use what you have learned and practiced to better serve the unit. Serve or plan to serve the lodge. Become an active member, by paying your dues, attending service days, Ordeals, Fellowships, and Conclave.

When you have reviewed the above items, think about what you have learned, done, and planned to do, you are ready to seal your membership.
